Troubleshooting and Tips
What is this all about?
This project has been created as part of the weekly RPA workgroups. The site is accessible outside the office domain so you can participate from the comfort of your home or outside office hours. As we progress through the workgroups and depending on the requirements set for each session, dynamic content will be made available. However an initial content of the project will be always available without login requirement so you can freely create your own workflows.
The workgroup sessions are available through calendar invites and you can participate either in person (if in office) or by skype. If you would like to be part of the sessions or you have a specific requirement that you want to cover, get in touch with me and would make all the necessary arrangements.
The main goal of the project is to create examples that could help you solve real life (bussiness cases) examples. However, as this project is available outside office domain and due to several data protection - GDPR - laws that we need to consider, the examples will be transformed, somehow, into a general case. No actual data, links, data models or libraries will be ever used on the project. Therefore, the workflows that will be developed would be data-independent and would work with any datasets.
Back to TopHow does this work?
Usually every Friday I collect all the emails with the requests (non-urgent) for the workgroups. During the weekend I go through the emails and depending the material, availability and urgency I try to find suitable dates for the sessions. Monday morning I will update the emailing list and send out the emails so we can all arrange suitable sessions. Urgent and one to one sessions will be dealt separately. Urgent emails, or extra sessions are kept outside the emailing list.
So do not forget to include your availability when you send in an email and also that pizza or coffee is a must have!
Back to TopThe scenario
Initial scenario
It is requested to create a process that will gather the Candidates and process them into various systems. Each Office and Department has its own systems that we need to feed the data. Also we are required to provide a report with the outcome of our process and how these actions altered the existing datasets that are already in place. Therefore at the end we need to create and send a report for the existing Agents, the new Candidates, and one final that includes datasets based on the requirements - office, departments.
Workgroup and individual sessions.
Each session will cover specific tasks that will be addressed. There is an emailing list that will circulate the workgroup tasks to cherry pick for each session. In some cases will try to arrange a skype call to discuss the content for each session. Specific dates and time are not set as this will change depending on the availability of those participating.
If you need something specific to cover, send me an email describing the workflow requirements and depending the sessions will either try to include it into a workgroup or will try to arrange an one to one session. Just make sure to give me some days in advance to work on the requirements. If it is urgent please give me a skype or just call me.
Back to TopPrerequisite
It is assumed that you have either completed the UiPath certifications or you are in progress to or at least you have received some training on how to develop RPA processes using the UiPath.
You must at least be able to create a workflow, search and install libraries at UiPath Studio and know how to search and add Activities into your workflow. The initial project is a good place to practice some basic skills if you need to refresh your memory or practice on new material that you have not work before with.
You will need either a a Commercial license or the Comminity version of UiPath. If you do not have Orchestrator logins or not been registered yet with UiPath follow the links at the RPA Home of this site and register for at least a Comminity version of UiPath. Make sure to access the Orchestrator and bookmark it as you will visit it frequently.
If you have given a license for UiPath but you want to practice on your personal computer, you could still register for the Community edition with your personal details. Keep in mind that you would not be able to use coorporate libraries and Activities in that case, as these are available on premises only.
Back to TopEnvironment set up
UiPath will be used for designing RPA workflows.
- Install UiPath studio.
- Register the Robot with the Orchestrator.
- Create folder structure for your processes in a place that you have the required permissions for read and write.
If you are a developer or comfortable with coding and want to set up a development environment then you could also install:
- Visual Studio
- SQL Express
- Text Editor like Sublime or Notepad++
I will not insult your intelligence by providing links and instructions on how to download and install the above tools.
Back to TopWhere to start
If it is Friday with a big slice of pizza! Any other day with a nice cup of coffee!
If you need to refresh your memory on UiPath or RPA in general or you are starting now, you can start navigating through the site and try to complete the tasks suggested on each View or create your own. The RPA journey starts here and you are free to navigate your way forward!
Workgroup and one to one sessions content will be available through your User space. Login from the link at the top right corner and all the sessions you are registered with, will be available through there.
Back to TopTroubleshooting and tips
If you have installed the Community Version, the Robot.exe is located at the "%localappdata%\UiPath\app-XXXX\" location.
- First open File Explorer and then copy paste: "%localappdata%\UiPath\"
- Then navigate into the app-XXXX folder, where XXX is the version you've installed.
- Then scroll all the way down and you will find the Robot.exe
- Double click and your Robot will start.
In order to register your Robot with Orchestrator you need to register your computer as Machine at the Orchestrator first. Machine for UiPath Orchestrator is what the Computer Name is for the Windows. That's the name of the computer itself, not the user account you are logged in with. It is case sensitive and you can find it following the steps below:
- Open cmd and type
- hostname
- and then press enter
- Copy paste the exact name as it is shown at the cmd.
